What are some ideas that will make things easier and less stressful for my family member making this transition into a retirement center or a care facility?

Familiarity is important. People and activity can be very upsetting or unsettling. It may be a good idea to plan a  "day out" time for the family member while this transition is being made. Plan a day of fun or stress-free activity. Then have the movers come in, with the assistance of a family member or members, pack, relocate, unpack, and stage the household items and important precious possessions that will provide comforting familiarity and consistency in their surroundings. That way they can move in, quickly settle in, and get comfortable without all the busy hustle and bustle of the move.
+

What things should I consider when moving to a retirement community or community care facility?

Space is a big one. Many times the space in a retirement community is more limited than the space the person is moving from. While it is very important to have as much comfort, familiarity and consistency around as possible, care, planning, and consideration is important when it comes to the space available.
+

Are there moving companies that specialize in retirement community/care center relocation?

Yes, well most moving companies can move your stuff, our staff pay special attention to the particular needs of this very special clientele. This means, most importantly, listening to our clients and their family and catering to what their specific situation is. This also means being patient and attentive, realizing this is an especially significant transition where consistency, familiarity, and courtesy are extremely important. Finally, this means being prompt, responsive, and reliable as unexpected changes can be especially unsettling during this period.
